Job Description

You’ll enjoy working outdoors in all weathers in a physically demanding job. The work is varied and involves taking environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, residential and commercial businesses. You will be working alone for the majority of the time but also sometimes part of a close team surveying fish populations. You will be trained to collect samples using relevant equipment and entering data on a smartphone or tablet. The job involves being outdoors most days and includes carrying samples and equipment, driving, lifting and working in and near water. You will be required to follow operational guidance and current Health and Safety procedures.
Core working hours are 37 per week, Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
* Collect environmental samples from rivers, boreholes, residential and commercial sites.
* Drive vehicles and commute between sites, including urban and rural locations.
* Carry, handle and return samples and equipment to the base location each day.
* Record data accurately on handheld devices or tablets.
* Operate in and near water, lift and load equipment.
* Follow operational guidance and current Health & Safety procedures.
Qualifications and Skills
* Full UK driving licence.
* Basic computer literacy.
* Experience with smartphone technology.
* Attention to detail and orderly following of instructions.
* Reliability and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Good navigational skills in urban and rural areas.
* Comfortable driving a van.
* Comfortable working in and near water.
An environmental background is not essential but desirable.
Competence Requirements
Competence 1: Data and Information Management
Collect and accurately record field data readings on a handheld device. Provide an example of where you have demonstrated the ability to accurately collect information or data.
Competence 2: Achieves Results
Prioritize and organise tasks to achieve a result. Describe a situation when you have demonstrated this ability.
Competence 3: Health, Safety & Wellbeing
Maintain Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW). Describe your health and safety knowledge and experience.
