Caretaker - General Maintenance – Student Accommodation
We are looking for someone to join our Roost on a full-time permanent basis, with the successful candidate working 5 days out of 7 between 8am & 6pm. Our new Caretaker will become a key part of our friendly and experienced property team at our Sheffield 3 property in Sheffield.

Are you someone who prides themselves on ensuring an environment is not only safe, but the best it can possibly be? Our Caretakers are individuals who take care of our buildings, providing safe spaces for residents and team members, and going above and beyond to keep our buildings well-maintained and looking fantastic.
As a Caretaker at Student Roost, you will be involved in all aspects of building maintenance, from carrying out small repairs to escorting third-party contractors within your building. You will also lead compliance checks with keen attention to detail and precise reporting. We will take care of you as you care for our buildings and the people within them.
Think you’re the right fit? We hope so.
You’ll be someone we can count on to:
OWN
* Be the engine room of the property, responding confidently to urgent maintenance issues and reporting problems swiftly if they cannot be fixed immediately.
* Bring your personality to work—your whole self—and contribute to a positive team environment.
* Take pride in the day-to-day maintenance of the property, focusing on customer service, attention to detail, and respectful treatment of residents' homes.
DO
* Ensure property safety through accurate compliance checks and prompt reporting of non-compliance.
* Identify repairs or replacements needed, such as painting, shelving, drain unblocking, or leak stopping.
* Develop an understanding of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and become your site’s go-to for PPM queries.
* Manage waste disposal, including maintaining the bin store area and ensuring proper disposal of contaminated waste.
LEARN
* Get started with our online learning platform and attend in-person training to develop your skills.
* Prioritize safety and welfare, using equipment safely and assisting contractors and engineers on-site.
* Learn the quirks of your building to become its maintenance expert.
COLLABORATE
* Work closely with the site manager and assistant manager to report maintenance issues and coordinate planned maintenance.
* Embrace our value Be Bold, Be Heard by sharing ideas and solutions for improvement.
The ‘us’ part
Beyond our properties, Student Roost values its people—property teams, support staff, HQ teams, and more—who make our residents’ experience exceptional. We seek individuals who aim to make a difference daily. In return, we support your career growth, reward your efforts, and celebrate your unique contributions.
Simply put: you do you, so we grow together.
Psst… there are some challenges too:
* Statutory compliance work can be repetitive but is essential for resident safety.
* Summer turnaround involves supporting higher maintenance levels and clearing out residents’ rooms during busy periods.
Please note, due to our safety-first culture, this role requires a Basic DBS check as part of pre-employment screening.
