We are currently partnering with a well-established generator manufacturing and power solutions business who are looking for a Generator Controls Engineer to join their growing engineering team.
Our client designs and manufactures advanced generator systems used across industrial, commercial, and critical infrastructure environments. Their solutions support reliable power delivery, backup systems, and complex electrical integration projects across a range of industries.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Controls Engineer who enjoys working on end-to-end system design, from development through to commissioning, within a highly technical and hands-on environment.
As a Generator Controls Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and implementing control systems for generator units. You will work closely with electrical, mechanical, and field service teams to ensure seamless integration and performance of control solutions. You will also act as a technical specialist for troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role is based in Rochester and requires on-site working
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop generator control systems, including PLC programming and HMI interfaces
Configure and troubleshoot control panels, sensors, and associated electrical components
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver integrated system solutions
Develop and maintain technical documentation such as schematics and test procedures
Conduct system testing, validation, and commissioning activities
Diagnose and resolve control system and generator performance issues
Support field service teams with technical expertise and troubleshooting
Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
Contribute to continuous improvement of system performance and reliability
Experience Required
Proven experience in control systems engineering within industrial or power generation environments
Strong PLC programming experience (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
Experience with HMI/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, CANbus, Ethernet/IP)
Strong understanding of electrical schematics and control panel design
Experience with system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical teams
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering team
Bonus Skills: Generator paralleling systems, load-sharing controls, NFPA/NEC/UL standards, field commissioning experience
Salary: £50,000-£70,000
