Job overview
The Sustainability Project Delivery Officer will support the effective delivery of projects that deliver measurable sustainability benefits for the Trust, both in terms of environmental impact and financial efficiency. The postholder will work within the Sustainability Team, and lead on the implementation and operational performance of projects, with an objective to scale up projects across the Trust where possible and effective.
Main duties of the job
1. Identify opportunities to deliver measurable sustainability benefits, by adapting existing processes, introducing innovative practice and challenging activities with a disproportionate environmental impact
2. Work with operational and clinical teams across the Trust, to gain support and buy-in for proposed change
3. Provide data analysis and reporting, to quantify project impact in terms of sustainability and cost metrics
4. Support the wider Sustainability Team in the delivery of progress against targets and objectives set out in the HHFT Green Plan
5. Engage with local networks and other Trusts to share best practice

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
6. Funding bids: Actively seeking and bidding for grants and funding opportunities to support delivery of projects, and growth of existing activities
7. Project management: Planning, delivery and evaluation of projects that deliver sustainability benefits as outlined within Green Plan
8. Compliance: Review the implications of current and proposed legislation and develop proposals and procedures to ensure compliance with prospective instruments and guidance
9. Green Plan: Ensure that role and working practices contribute to the implementation of the Trust’s Green Plan
10. Carbon emissions: Use the most sustainable and lowest carbon ways of working
11. Sustainability: Wherever possible reduce waste and maximize recycling, including review of supply chains. Phase out single use plastic items and switch to re-usable ones, where appropriate
12. Procurement: Where goods and services are procured, that the most sustainable items with the lowest carbon impact are selected
13. Digital: Maximize the use of digital solutions and reduce use of paper, where possible
14. Care Pathways: Streamline care pathways and reduce patient travel, where clinically appropriate
15. Adaptation: Identify ways to mitigate the risks of climate change and take steps to adapt, where needed (e.g. to stop buildings from overheating.
16. Internal consultation: Working closely in collaboration with the Sustainability Manager, Head of Sustainability and other key internal stakeholders during the planning and implementation of sustainability projects, ensuring close alignment with the objectives of the Trust Green Plan
17. Stakeholder engagement: Compile and communicate project-specific information tailored to a variety of audiences in order to increase understanding of proposals for change and their impact
18. Expert Advice and Guidance: Provide expert information, advice, and guidance to colleges across the organisation
19. Partnership Working: Build relationships with Sustainability Teams from other leading healthcare providers to share knowledge and identify opportunities for joint initiatives
