Make a real impact by helping our Youth learn to drive!

We’re looking for a motivated Driver Mentor to assist young people with their learners licence to practice their driving in order to achieve their ‘Log Book’ hours. Such supervision and instruction will not involve the formal teaching of learner drivers. Instead, this supervision and instruction is intended to compliment formal driving lessons provided by a qualified Driving Instructor.

You will have access to a dual pedal vehicle supplied by Workskil to help the youth with their ‘Log Book’ hours.

About the Role

As a Driver Mentor, you’ll be responsible for:

1. Supervising, mentoring, and guiding the youth as they complete their required ‘Log Book’ hours.
2. Ensuring all activities comply with Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards
3. Inducting new young people into the program.
4. Working towards goals outlined in the learner driver handbook.
5. Maintaining Workskil Australia’s vehicle in a clean, roadworthy condition.
6. Supporting a diverse range of participants with empathy, patience, and professionalism.
7. Supporting learners to engage with a qualified Driving School when ready for their Provisional Licence Test.

8. Location: Across our Cannington and Armadale Sites
9. Employment Type: Full Time Ongoing

Who This Role May Suit

This role would suit someone who is patient, calm under pressure, and passionate about helping young people reach their potential. You might come from a background such as:

10. Former police, emergency services, or defence personnel with strong road safety awareness.
11. Youth workers, community mentors, school support or teachers who enjoy guiding and supporting young people.
12. Professional drivers or transport industry workers looking to move into a more people-focused role.
13. Anyone with a genuine interest in helping others learn and grow, and who meets the licence requirements below.

About You

To be successful in the role you must be an accredited Driving Instructor or willing to obtain (with Workskil Australia’s support) within a specified time frame. You must also be able to:

14. Demonstrate knowledge of WHS workplace requirements and experience implementing WHS policies, systems and processes in a work setting.
15. Demonstrate your ability to use the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and ability to type (minimum 30 words per minute);
16. Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective relationships with a diverse range of participants, particularly young people; and
17. Demonstrate good knowledge of the region and townships and experience driving in this area.
18. Hold a full unconditional driver’s licence for the relevant State for at least 5 years’ prior continuous duration and not be subject to any good behaviour bonds;
19. Current Working with Children’s Check or ability to obtain;
20. Undergo a National Criminal History Check; and
21. Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate or a willingness to obtain one.
