Overview
Part time B7 Specialist Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist specialising in working with young people who have complex needs. The post is based in the South Devon and Torbay locality and contributes to leadership of Speech and Language therapy across the integrated pathway county-wide.
The role includes speech and language assessment and intervention for children and young people with significant communication difficulties, often with a complex medical history who usually access education via special school provision in the locality.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist SLT assessment, advice and interventions to children, young people and their families; hold a caseload of children with complex needs.
* Provide case management of an identified caseload of children and young people with highly complex long-term conditions and needs, using evidence-based care.
* Act as Clinical Specialist for complex needs across the Torbay, South and West Devon area to lead, plan, co-ordinate and provide a highly specialist SLT service, including assessment, diagnosis, advice, treatment and staff training.
* Provide clinical supervision and line management to other Speech and Language Therapists under the leadership of the postholder.
* Work alongside colleagues in special schools, specialist community settings, mainstream schools and other community settings, offering joint visits and second opinions in the field of early years complex needs.
* Plan, implement and evaluate highly specialist training courses for SLTs and other professionals from Health, Social Services and Education, including teachers.
* Manage and organise a specific, personal highly specialist caseload, including complex cases, independently as a fully autonomous practitioner.
Qualifications and Experience
* Experience as a Speech and Language Therapist with a focus on complex needs.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team; ability to provide supervision and contribute to service development across pathways.
