Do you thrive in innovative, multi-agency environments where your leadership can drive real change?We’re launching a transformative Intensive Community Support Programme in Newham, and we’re looking for a dynamic Clinical Team Lead to shape and lead this new model of care.

About the Role

As Clinical Team Lead, you’ll lead a small, specialist team delivering flexible, therapeutic, community-based support to young people aged 13–18 who are at risk of family or placement breakdown based within Newham Council’s Edge of Care Service. This is not a traditional crisis or inpatient role, this is a unique opportunity to lead a service that offers early, intensive support in the community, tailored to the needs of young people with complex presentations.You will be based within Newham Council’s Edge of Care Service and work closely with partners across health, social care, and education to deliver high-impact interventions and reduce the need for restrictive practices.

Main duties of the job

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for the Intensive Community Support team
2. Lead on complex assessments, formulations, and interventions
3. Be supported by up to four staff from a range of specialisms
4. Offer expert consultation, supervision, and training to professionals and care teams
5. Drive service development, evaluation, and quality improvement
6. Foster strong multi-agency partnerships and system-wide collaboration
7. Champion inclusive, trauma-informed, and neurodiversity-aware care pathways

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

8. Professional registration (e.g. Clinical Psychologist, Systemic Psychotherapy, RMN, OT, Social Worker, Child Psychotherapist)
9. Substantial experience in CAMHS or related services, including leadership roles
10. Expertise in working with young people with complex needs, neurodiversity, and trauma
11. Strong clinical supervision and service development skills
12. Experience in safeguarding and risk management
13. Knowledge of trauma-informed care models

Desirable:

14. Experience in service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement
15. Knowledge of Positive Behavioural Support care models

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria

21. Registered Mental Health clinician with equivalent professional registration (e.g. RMN, OT, Social worker).
22. Current professional registration
23. Qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession including: Clinical Psychologist / Counselling Psychologist/Systemic Psychotherapist / Clinical Nurse Specialist (Mental Health or LD) / Social Worker/Child psychotherapist
24. Appropriate level of qualification for your profession e.g. BSc, Masters or Doctorate
25. Registration with your appropriate body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, etc.)

Desirable criteria

26. Evidence of post qualification study and personal development (e.g. Advanced nurse practitioner, PBS trainer).
27. Positive Behaviour Support training with recognised provider.
28. Qualifications/ training in specialist skills e.g. systemic therapies, neuropsychology
29. Leadership training

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

30. Significant experience of working with CYP and Families.
31. Experience of securing practice initiatives and service improvements and developments.
32. Experience and knowledge of working in a trauma informed way.
33. Senior clinical experience in the assessment and management of complex issues in CAMHS setting such as challenging behavior, dynamics etc.
34. Experience of Crisis and Risk Management.
35. Experience of setting therapeutic boundaries with patients and care givers who exhibit extreme challenging and high-risk behaviors that require advanced interventions to enable effective de-escalation.
36. Experience of teaching staff advanced skills in setting boundaries, de-escalation and diffusion techniques.
37. Experience of promotion of the Recovery Model
38. Experience of multi-professional collaboration at a senior level
39. Partnership working with other statutory and voluntary agencies
40. Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care
41. Able to facilitate multidisciplinary debriefing, critical analysis meetings
42. Able to work systematically and objectively in a challenging situation.
43. Able to take the lead in highly volatile situations
44. Able to communicate complex and sensitive issues to a range of audiences around behavioural management for young people with significant behaviour that challenges and/or mental health problems
