The business area Renewables Certification (RC) is a leading certification body for renewable energy projects. We form the world’s largest independent certification body for renewable energy with a workforce of 300 employees across 10 offices located in Japan, Denmark, Germany, UK, Poland, Norway, North America, South Korea, Taiwan and China. Manufacturers, banks and insurers around the world rely on the state-of-the-art service we provide. Our expertise spans onshore and offshore wind power, solar, storage, conventional generation, transmission and distribution, smart grids, and sustainable energy use, as well as energy markets and regulations.
Role
DNV is currently looking for a Structural Engineer who will join the renewables certification team located in Minato Mirai, Yokohama. The team is focused on supporting our clients to reduce the risks as they deliver bigger, more efficient, and lower cost projects.
Main tasks and responsibilities
DNV have extensive experience with offshore projects and have worked with 80% of the offshore wind projects to date. The candidate joining the team will be provided with excellent training opportunities to improve their technical knowledge and understanding of offshore projects. Tasks may include:
* Technical review and analysis
* Assessment and independent analysis of support structures for offshore wind turbines (towers, substructures and foundations etc.)
* Review client technical documents and methodology to confirm conformity with design standards and certification requirements
* Participate in development of DNV standards and other research-oriented projects
* Inspection and survey
* Take part in quality audits on fabrication workshops
* Carry out site surveys
* Review manufacturing documentation
* Project Management
* Ensure the consistent and timely delivery of high‑quality work
* Work according to accredited certification processes to ensure a consistent, independent and auditable record
* Interaction, communication and collaboration with colleagues internationally to complete integrated analyses for offshore projects
* Communication and customer relationships
* Lead technical reviews and project progress meetings with clients
* Manage customer relationships and actively develop new business opportunities in the renewables market

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have an Engineering degree and a strong desire to work in renewable energy.
We expect that you have some of the qualifications below:
* Engineering degree from a Japanese University in civil, structural or marine engineering, naval architecture, or equivalent
* Have 2 or more years of relevant experience working with power plants including renewable energy
* Knowledge of Japanese building standard law and its related standards
* Experience with design of steel structures including fatigue
* Experience with corrosion and steel materials
* Experience with structural probabilistic reliability analyses and seismic analyses
* Experience in relevant analysis tools (e.g., SESAM, ABAQUS, ANSYS, SACS)
* Experience with integrated analysis of bottom fixed and floating structures with dynamic loading and response
* Experience with manufacturing and offshore installation survey/surveillance
* Project management experience, with understanding of technical interfaces
