Purpose of Role
As a Refrigeration Engineer within the VINCI Facilities Management mobile engineering team, you will be part of a nationwide team of approximately 50 engineers, organised into four regional groups across the UK.
Each regional team is led by a Team Leader, who will act as your direct line manager, with overall reporting into the UK Direct Delivery Manager. In this role, you will support the delivery of maintenance services across the client’s service station network, typically operating within a 90-minute travel radius from your home location.
Job Description
You will work in a multi-skilled capacity, with a primary focus as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (AC) Engineer, delivering high-quality maintenance services in line with contract requirements.
The client’s retail estate consists of modern refrigeration systems, including both display and backup units (typically under 10 years old, with gas charges below 5kg). Most sites feature two display units connected to a single remote condenser, with some larger locations incorporating small pack inverter-driven systems.
All stores are equipped with at least one integral refrigeration unit, while air conditioning systems are commonly 12kW split systems with ceiling-mounted cassette units.
Your standard working hours will be 40 hours per week, across five days (Monday to Friday), typically between 08:00 and 16:30, including a 30-minute break. Additional hours or out-of-hours work may be required and will be compensated at enhanced rates, subject to prior approval from VINCI management.
Responsibilities
1. Carry out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs on refrigeration and air conditioning systems across multiple sites
2. Respond to and manage work orders via the VINCI tablet system, ensuring timely completion and accurate job closure
3. Provide general building maintenance support where required, demonstrating flexibility within a multi-skilled role
4. Utilise personal hand tools, with VINCI supplying any specialist equipment needed
5. Ensure all equipment is operated safely and maintained in compliance with relevant standards and testing requirements
6. Collaborate with the scheduling team to effectively plan workloads and respond to changing priorities
7. Maintain high standards of professionalism, safety, and compliance with VINCI and client policies at all times
Essential Qualifications/Skills
8. Valid Gas Handling Certificate and F-Gas qualification (mandatory)
9. Proven experience in servicing and maintaining refrigeration and air conditioning systems of the type described
10. Strong practical skills in general building maintenance and DIY tasks
11. Flexible and adaptable approach, with a willingness to undertake additional training as client requirements evolve
12. Ability to work independently while managing time and workload effectively across multiple sites
