We are excited to offer a permanent Electrician role at HMP Kirkham, Freckleton Road, Kirkham, Preston, Lancashire, PR4 2RN.
Base salary: £29,009 - £35,015 per year.
Standard hours: 39 hours per week – Monday to Thursday 08:00‑17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00‑16:00. A rota of one weekend in three is required, with a 15% weekend allowance.
Working in the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) facilities team supporting His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS).
What you will do
* Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including associated administrative duties.
* Fault finding and problem solving on electrical systems across the prison.
* Carrying out like‑for‑like replacements and other minor electrical works, with inspections and tests recorded in accordance with BS7671.
* Ensuring all electrical systems are safe, compliant, and functioning to create a secure environment for staff and residents.
* Assisting the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when required.
* Maintaining Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work across all appropriate work streams.
* Escorting duties and other related tasks as requested.
What you will bring
* City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation qualification, or equivalent.
* Knowledge of BS7671 18th Edition (or 17th Edition with commitment to upskilling).
* Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
* Experience of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
* Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Capability to work at heights, independently and with initiative.
* Knowledge of fire alarm and CCTV systems is desirable.
* Familiarity with Electrical Systems regulations.
* Basic IT skills.

Enhanced Level 1 security clearance and Enhanced DBS with Child Barring – Amey will support the clearance process.
