The Team focuses on transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services within the NHS, with a particular emphasis on supporting children and young people in schools, colleges and alternative provision.</p><ul><li>Deliver evidence‑based interventions for children and young people with mild‑to‑moderate mental health problems.</li><li>Support the senior mental health lead in each education setting to introduce or develop a whole‑school/college approach.</li><li>Give timely advice to school and college staff and liaise with external specialist services to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and remain in education.</li></ul><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>The Education Mental Health Practitioner will support school staff to feel confident in recognising and responding to emerging mental health difficulties. The role works in partnership with existing mental health support services such as counsellors, educational psychologists, school nurses, pastoral care staff and welfare officers.</p><h3>Job description and main responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.</li><li>27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 after 10 years.</li><li>Successful completion of an IAPT ‘Education Mental Health Practitioner’ or Children and Young People’s Wellbeing Practitioner course and evidence of working with children and young people who have experienced mental health problems.</li><li>Evidence of continuing professional development in the field of child and adolescent mental health.</li></ul><h3>Experience</h3><ul><li>Experience delivering evidence‑based mental health interventions, including low‑intensity CBT, to children, young people and parents; use and interpretation of routine outcome measures.</li><li>Experience developing and delivering whole‑school approaches to mental health and wellbeing initiatives, including training design and delivery.</li><li>Experience working with parents, offering psychoeducation or CBT‑led interventions.</li><li>Computer literacy and ability to keep clinical records to a high standard in line with policies.</li></ul><h3>Knowledge</h3><ul><li>Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development, emotional, social and psychological wellbeing.</li><li>Understanding of psychological models of brief intervention, safeguarding issues, capacity and consent including Gillick competence.</li><li>Knowledge of the legal and ethical framework for working with children and young people.</li></ul><h3>Skills</h3><ul><li>Proficient in CYP assessment skills and routine outcome measures, including suitability assessments.</li><li>Effective communication skills for a variety of needs and situations.</li><li>Good organisational and time‑management skills and ability to work autonomously.</li></ul><h3>Other Requirements</h3><ul><li>Willing to carry out all duties in accordance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities and Equality and Diversity policies.</li><li>Appointments to regulated and controlled activities require an enhanced DBS disclosure.</li><li>Ability to work across various locations as part of the role.</li><li>Car owner/driver with a full UK driver’s licence or mobile and able to visit various locations as required.</li></ul><p><b>Important Information about working for GMMH</b></p><ul><li>All positions are subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks; further information on required checks can be found on the NHS Employers website.</li><li>Staff who require a DBS for their role are required to subscribe to the DBS Update Service (fee £16 per year) and maintain registration throughout their employment.</li></ul><p>Please note, this vacancy may be closed at any time if sufficient applications have been received</p><h3>Employer certification / accreditation</h3><p>You must have appropriate UK professional registration.</p></div>
