Job overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Physiotherapist to join the Community Paediatric Therapies Service. The post holder will provide specialist Physiotherapy assessment and treatment to children aged 0-19 years in a wide range of settings within the community.

We are a friendly, dynamic and supportive team who all work together to provide the best possible outcomes for the children, young people and their families. There will be the opportunity to develop more advanced clinical, leadership and service development skills.

The post is based at West Acklam Centre but there is also the requirement for independent travel around community settings within the Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland region. It involves working within the wider integrated Paediatric Therapies Service which includes the Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy teams covering the acute services at The James Cook University Hospital.

Main duties of the job

To provide assessment and interventions to children/young people aged 0-19 years old with a variety of conditions, including complex needs who are resident within the South Tees region.

The specialist physiotherapy assessment and intervention will take place in the most appropriate community location to best meet the needs of the individual child/young person and their family. Access to independent travel is essential.

Clinical supervision and line management duties of other staff members within the team is an important duty of this role. Appropriate additional duties will be delegated to the successful candidate by the Service Lead including representation of the wider Paediatric Therapies Service in external/Trust wide meetings.

Leading on service improvement and development projects.

Significant postgraduate experience working within Paediatric Physiotherapy and enthusiasm for working with a wide range of children/young people up to the age of 19 is essential.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

1. Evidence of advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of Paediatric patients with a variety of conditions and complex needs.
2. Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills.
3. Ability to work in a team and promote collaborative multidisciplinary/agency working.
4. Highly developed communication and report writing skills, in verbal and written format
5. Evidence of leadership skills including delegation, effective time management, deputisation for more senior staff, staff management/supervision.
6. Demonstrates a highly specialist clinical knowledge and skills relevant to Paediatric Physiotherapy.
7. Demonstrates ability to prioritise and co-ordinate own workload and that of others.

Desirable criteria

8. Good understanding of the SEND agenda
9. Evidence of service development, clinical audit and/or research.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

10. To hold a Diploma or degree awarded by professional body the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
11. Registered as to fit to practice by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
12. Evidence of Paediatric post graduate clinical training and development

Desirable criteria

13. To hold or be working towards MSc or relevant post-graduate qualification
14. Member of the APCP.

Experience

Essential criteria

15. Significant post-graduate experience of working within Paediatric Physiotherapy in a variety of NHS clinical settings.
16. Significant experience of working with children/young people with a variety of conditions including complex neurological, orthopaedic, developmental and respiratory conditions.
17. Experience of clinical education and the supervision of Physiotherapy students on clinical placement.
18. Evidence of effective people management skills.

Desirable criteria

19. Experience of training other healthcare professionals.
