Geowynd is seeking a Principal Geotechnician. The successful candidate will be a team member at Geowynd and will be focused on providing the highest quality, high value data for interpretation by our clients and engineering teams. The Principal Geotechnician role will be focused on training, supervision and execution of classification and standard testing, but other duties will include calibration of equipment, and leading the accreditation process in the classification laboratory, including engagement with external assessors.
What you will do:
* Demonstrating, supervising, and performing geotechnical laboratory testing, including classification, index strength and total stress shear tests;
* Providing training to junior personnel for execution and processing of the above test types;
* Ensuring test programming and tracking software is updated to allow accurate testing progress updates to be provided to clients;
* Overseeing daily equipment & environmental quality checks throughout the laboratory, informing the Laboratory Manager where anything out of the ordinary or out of specification is found;
* Demonstrating and supervising equipment calibrations and checks, as planned or otherwise required;
* Leading accreditation assessments and arranging verification testing;
* Support training of colleagues, as required by the laboratory management;
* Ensuring a high level of cleanliness throughout the laboratory facility, and ensuring the equipment is maintained to the highest standard;
* Complying with Geowynd management system policies, practices, programs, and procedures;
* Supporting Geowynd’s environmental and social goals.
Who you are:
* A demonstrable experience in the execution and supervision of standard geotechnical laboratory testing across a range of soil types;
* Experience in the execution and supervision of laboratory equipment calibrations and checks;
* Experience in delivering training for classification testing;
* The ability to operate within a team, and at times be comfortable working under your own initiative;
* An aptitude for mechanical testing;
* An eye for detail, and the ability to follow written procedures;
* Good practical experience with office tools: MS Office, Google Drive, Teams, e-mail, among others.
* Experience with internal and external geotechnical laboratory audits;
* Formal health & safety training.
Salary for this position: Up to £60,000 per annum
Salary: The salary varies for this position as we are recruiting in multiple regional locations and job grades. The salary process is based on skills, abilities, and experience required.
