A Career at St Edmunds College
MENTAL HEALTH LEAD
(Required for September 2025)
St Edmunds College is a leading co-educational independent school located in a magnificent country setting in rural Hertfordshire. We are England's oldest Catholic school and offer an all-round co-education for students from 3 to 18 and for families from all faiths. Academic achievement is balanced by an emphasis on the spiritual, pastoral and co-curricular aspects of education. Together, these four key elements offer an experience that we believe is second to none.
We require a Mental Health Lead who will have an oversight of the whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing, including how it is reflected in behaviour and wellbeing policies, curriculum, and pastoral support. The candidate will have an oversight of the delivery of interventions implemented and will measure the impact within the College, both the day and boarding community. They will support staff in contact with children and young people who have been identified with SEMH (social, emotional, mental health needs) to help raise awareness, and develop the confidence level of all staff to work with these children and young people.
The role would require a minimum of 2.5 days or equivalent hours per week, term-time.
Salary £17,821
The Mental Health Lead role may be combined with on call cover for our Boarding students, in which case onsite accommodation would be provided. This can be discussed at interview.
Whilst not a teaching role, as Mental Health Lead you will be working on a regular basis in a role which gives opportunity for contact with children. As such, you will be in regulated activity and an enhanced DBS check (which includes childrens barred list information) will be required in advance of appointment.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyones responsibility. As with all College staff members, you will therefore be responsible for providing a safe environment in which children can learn.
If you would like to apply, please complete and return an application by the closing date:
Closing date for applications when all forms must be received by HR is: Midday on Friday 8th August 2025
Interviews to take place:Mid August 2025
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Candidates will be required to undergo relevant Safeguarding Checks.
We will seek references on short-listed candidates that will include questions about past disciplinary actions or allegations in relation to behaviour with children and may approach previous employers for information to verify particular experience or qualifications before interview.
This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975, 2013 and 2020.
