Are you an experienced finance leader looking for an opportunity to provide stability and strategic support during a key transition period? Do you have the ability to operate at both a strategic and hands-on level? Are you confident working closely with senior leadership and trustees while overseeing day-to-day finance operations?
A not-for-profit organisation based in the Lake District is seeking an Interim Head of Finance to join on an initial 3-4 month contract starting in July. This role will provide essential leadership and continuity during a period of transition, overseeing the finance function while supporting the wider organisation with strategic and operational financial management.
The role can be offered on either a full-time basis or a minimum of 4 days per week and will require on-site presence for 2-3 days each week. Accommodation can be made available if required.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Leading and managing a small finance team, ensuring effective day-to-day operations
2. Overseeing budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting processes
3. Producing and reviewing management accounts and providing financial insight to senior stakeholders
4. Supporting the Board of Trustees and attending finance and risk committee meetings
5. Acting as a trusted adviser to the CEO on financial and strategic matters
6. Reviewing finance systems, processes and structures, making recommendations for future improvements
7. Supporting governance responsibilities, including company secretariat duties
8. Providing leadership and continuity through a transitional period
The successful candidate will have:
9. Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
10. Proven experience operating in a senior finance leadership role
11. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with trustees and senior leadership
12. A strategic mindset combined with a hands-on approach to operational finance
13. Experience overseeing management accounting, forecasting and financial controls
14. Experience using Sage accounting software would be advantageous
15. Previous not-for-profit or charity experience is desirable, but not essential
