Job Purpose
To manage a caseload of litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims with a value of up to £100,000, ensuring each case is progressed efficiently from initial instruction through to resolution. The role involves overseeing the full lifecycle of claims, applying sound legal judgement and procedural knowledge to achieve timely and cost‑effective outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
* Run a case load of files for litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims with a value of up to £100,000 efficiently, proactively and profitably.
* Ensure customers receive gold‑standard customer care.
* Deal with fixed‑fee and portal RTA, including untraced and uninsured MIB claims, with the intention of maximising damages for the customer by pursuing all relevant heads of loss.
* Obtain appropriate medical and non‑medical evidence in accordance with the relevant track and recoverability.
* Use PI Calculator to assist in the efficient progression of cases.
* Issue proceedings using the Court Portal.
* Attend conferences, hearings and CMCs with counsel if necessary.
* Advise customers on litigation/cost risks where appropriate.
* Advise customers about the risks associated with fundamental dishonesty and ensure all evidence is closely reviewed and cross‑referenced for consistency.
* Ensure that any appropriate instructions are obtained from any relevant lay and/or insurance customers, litigation friend, attorney or deputy in a timely manner.
* Comply with professional conduct rules and internal policies and procedures.
* Prioritise court directions, ensuring all directions are complied with in a timely manner.
* Keep customers informed and updated on a regular basis throughout the life of the claim, leveraging technology where appropriate while maintaining a personal connection with the customer.
* Build constructive and positive working relationships with defendant solicitors and insurers, focusing on collaborative working where appropriate.
* Check the authenticity and validity of claims by carrying out due diligence.
* Continually assess risk from the outset and throughout the case to ensure prospects of success justify continuance and extract from cases where prospects fall below 51 %.
* Keep relevant insurers updated and fully informed of claim progress to reduce potential exposure and liability, and to increase saving.
* Ensure correct retainers and rates are sent to customers, and that cost estimates are updated annually with retainer rates reviewed regularly.
* Obtain correct medical and other evidence to advance and/or maximise the claim.
* Discuss liability and/or quantum offers with relevant parties, preferring telephone communication to letters whenever possible.
* Prioritise incoming daily post and emails, addressing urgent items first and handling the remainder expeditiously.
* May be required to act as an authorised person if requested.
Experience & Knowledge
* Solicitor or CILEx lawyer with litigation rights or working toward obtaining them.
* Experience running your own claimant caseload of litigated and non‑litigated personal injury claims within all RTA portals and the former Multi‑Track (now Intermediate Track).
* Being able to run El/PL or OL cases is advantageous (not essential).
* Experience working to fee targets and/or settlement targets.
* Willingness to mentor and develop colleagues.
* Good working knowledge of the CPR and relevant case law or legislation, progressing claims in a timely manner in accordance with the CPR.
* Excellent customer care skills.
* Able to provide written and oral advice clearly and concisely.
* Strong communication skills, especially customer communication.
* Ability to liaise and build rapport with external agencies (medical, investigators, barristers, etc.) during the life of a claim.
* Strong IT skills and knowledge of VF or a similar case‑management system, plus essential MS Office skills.
* Excellent time‑management and organisational skills, with a calm, methodical approach to work and a flexible, adaptable attitude toward resolving issues.
