Health Care Support Worker Theatres (HCSW)

Provide nursing expertise to facilitate evidence‑based, patient‑centred care. Support the Trust’s strategy of delivering quality healthcare for patients and their families/carers. Work within and support the Trust Objectives and departmental philosophy and standards. Carry out theatre procedures and implement policies, ensuring patient documentation and all safety measures are in accordance with departmental policy. Act up for the person with continuing responsibility as required. Base location: Bournemouth.
Main duties of the job
* Assist the Theatre Team in providing patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Theatre Practitioner.
* Be a skilled member of the Theatre Team and participate in some lead roles under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.
* Provide high standards of individualized nursing care for patients and their families by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care with supervision of trained theatre staff.
* Recognise and report changes in a patient’s condition and escalates appropriately to a trained practitioner.
* Build effective relationships with patients using empathy and reassurance and act as the patient advocate.
* Provide, receive, and communicate sensitive and confidential information with the MDT, including telephone messages, answering bleeps, comments or complaints.
* Attend and participate in department/ward meetings.
* Support the Clinical Leader to develop and maintain clinical services that meet the needs of patients and the MDT.
Job responsibilities

* Initially employed as a Band 2 if applicants do not meet the required care certificate competencies; applicants with a care certificate accreditation will start in post at Band 3.
* As part of the interview process you will be asked to complete a numeracy and literacy assessment.

Qualifications
* Previous experience working in theatre – proven record in developing new ways of working.
* Flexible/adaptable.
* Awareness of Health and Safety requirements.
* Awareness of Infection Control Policies.
* Health‑care related experience.
* Good organisational skills and able to prioritise workload and delegate duties.
* Experience of employment in a Theatre setting.
* Willingness to undertake training.
