Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Consultant General Physician and Nephrologist to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the James Paget University Hospital.
The appointee will have responsibilities to the general medical on call as well as providing occasional ward round cover to the medical acute admission. There will also be the opportunity to play a significant teaching role in the Norwich Medical School.
Prospective candidates should be within 6 months of obtaining a CCT, or be listed on the Specialist Register of the GMC, for Nephrology and General (Internal) Medicine or be seeking to work towards a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR).
Main duties of the job
* Share work load with consultant physician colleagues.
* Provide with the other Consultants a system of mutual out-of-hours cover for General Internal Medicine and cover for annual, study and professional leave.
* Provide a consultation and advisory service to medical colleagues in other specialties in the Trust.
* Liaise with medical staff in other specialties and participate in the regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities of the hospital.
* Take part in the continuing medical education programme. The Trust will provide study leave expenses in line with national terms and conditions of service.
* Play a full part in the teaching, audit and other governance activities of the department.

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (JPUH) provides medical services for a population of approximately 230,000 living in South East Norfolk and North East Suffolk, plus a large number of visitors to the coast and Broads National Park during the summer months. In addition, it provides approximately 1/3 of the secondary care teaching for the new Norwich Medical School.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful candidate will be joining Dr Jean Patrick and Dr Nishamanie Karunasena in running the renal services at James Paget University Hospitals. It would be expected that the post holder would work collaboratively with the renal team at the NNUH to improve the provision for renal patients at the James Paget. The renal services include inpatient cover, outpatient renal clinics, supporting the outpatient haemodialysis unit and opportunity to be involved in research activity and teaching.

Education and Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full GMC registration
* Full and Specialist registration in Nephrology (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
* MD/PhD
* Possession of ALS
Experience & Knowledge
* Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems with a wide experience in Acute and General Medicine
* A special interest to compliment those within the department
Key Skills
* Experience in teaching junior medical staff
* Motivation and able to plan and develop the service
* Experience of teaching medical students
* Ability and enthusiasm for teaching health care professionals and medical students in an Acute Medicine setting
* Capable of organising and prioritising work effectively
* Willingness to participate in clinical governance
* Energy and enthusiasm and an ability to work under pressure
* Conscientious and highly motivated with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and staff
* Able to form part of a team and recognise the importance of team working
* Formal training in teaching skills
* Experience of committee work/project management.
