Trainee Occupational Hygiene Technician & COSHH Coordinator Organisation Information: Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing ORourke, two of Europes most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Purpose of the role: This is a role based at HPC, where the successful candidate would be responsible for carrying out Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) assessments, managing the chemical database and carrying out occupational hygiene walkthroughs and monitoring. The successful candidate will also support the Occupational Hygiene and Health Lead and the expanding Occupational Hygiene and Health Team, to ensure that the health of our people is not adversely affected by their work, through: Acting as a champion for health and support for Occupational Hygiene and Health delivery site wide. To ensure COSHH assessments are carried out, reviewed and updated when required. Carry out COSHH awareness training to the workforce. Provide a central point of contact for all COSHH assessments and chemical database enquires. Carrying out and assisting with Occupational hygiene inspections and monitoring. Facilitating and coaching to the workforce on occupational hygiene and health expectations. Assisting HPC in complying with the NNB site wide standards and COSHH regulations. Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities: Champion the occupational hygiene and health agenda, working with the Occupational Hygiene and Health Lead, Occupational Hygiene and Health Team along with the wider H&S function in promoting hygiene and health across the business Carry out COSHH assessments for all chemicals used on site Ensure the chemical management system is kept up to date and that the workflow approval process that is integrated into the chemical management system is completed four weeks prior to bringing new chemicals onto site. This must include the location and quantities of chemicals. Ensure all chemicals brought onto site have an up-to-date Safety Data Sheet (SDS) which is uploaded to chemical management system. Ensure all chemicals brought onto site have a chemical management system and Bylor (where applicable) COSHH Assessment which are uploaded to the chemical management system. Monitor, manage and deliver training on the COSHH database (chemical management system). Manage BYLOR Tier 2/3s COSHH assessment and submissions. Offer support and guidance to all Bylor delivery teams and sub-contractors regarding all COSHH inquiries. Provide site guidance on handling and storage of substances in accordance with the SDS Complete Insight actions relating to responsibilities. Liaise with the NNB COSHH Co-ordinator, Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) and Hinkley Health (Occupational Hygienist) and the Bylor Health, Safety and Environment team regarding COSHH. Oversee and support platform COSHH Co-Ordinator Advisors to ensure each platform is compliant and following the correct procedures. Liaise with the general stores team to ensure the PPE that is required for certain chemicals is procured. Carry out weekly COSHH stores and waste management inspections on various platforms. To deliver COSHH awareness training. Support and facilitate with H&S team, the delivery of occupational hygiene and health campaigns across the projects/workplaces. Carry out Occupational Hygiene inspections and monitoring (Noise, Dust, Hand-arm Vibration etc.). Carry out face-fit testing where required. Assist the Occupational Hygiene Team and HSE Team where required. Technical knowledge: Technical knowledge in Occupational Hygiene and Health risk management includinghazards. Ability to carry out COSHH assessments. Knowledge of the COSHH regulations Skills required: Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels to gather relevant information related to COSHH. Is a self-starter and injects energy into a project/team. Is highly organised, plans ahead and able to prioritise when demands are high to ensure key deliverables are met in a timely manner. Is passionate about Hygiene and Health and wants to champion it across the business. Skilled in engagement and listening, to encourage open communications. Education & Qualifications: Must hold relevant qualification(s) A-Levels or degree equivalent in a relevant subject.
