Southampton City Council is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Clerk of Works to oversee and ensure the quality of construction works across its Corporate Estate portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the built environment of one of the South Coast's most dynamic cities.
Responsibilities
* Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and statutory regulations
* Conduct site inspections and produce detailed reports on progress, quality, and health & safety
* Liaise with contractors, consultants, and council stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain high standards
* Ensure materials and workmanship meet contractual and industry standards
* Support project delivery across a range of corporate estate developments, including office refurbishments, civic buildings, and community infrastructure
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience in a Clerk of Works role within public sector or commercial construction
* Strong technical knowledge of building methods, materials, and regulations
* Excellent communication and reporting skills
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits across the city
* Relevant qualifications in construction, surveying, or building inspection (e.g., ICWCI membership desirable)

* Rate: £30.13 per hour (Umbrella)
* Hours: 37 hours per week
* Duration: Initial 3-month contract with potential for extension
* Location: Southampton, with travel across council sites as required
