This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Safeguarding Department as a Police Staff investigator (PIP2).

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and motivated individuals who are current accredited PIP level 2 investigators and who can demonstrate ongoing continuous professional development (within the last two years) to join Northumbria Police as a Police Staff Investigator.

Our Safeguarding Department works alongside partnership agencies to provide a response to the most vulnerable members of our communities. We have dedicated teams which investigate Rape and abuse perpetrated against Children and Vulnerable Adults.

What you’ll do

This Police Staff Investigator role (PIP level 2) involves working as part of a team of detectives in the Rape Investigation Teams to investigate serious and complex crimes, deal with victims, offenders and witnesses. A significant number of these cases will be heard at Crown Court and will therefore be subject to rigorous scrutiny; the offences will most often involve the most serious level of offending and will therefore have the greatest impact on victims and communities. Bringing such offenders to justice is both a challenging and rewarding role.

Applicants are advised that due to the nature of this work they will be dealing with disturbing material in the form of viewing, listening to interviews and reading material with distressing content.

Applicants are also advised that they will be expected to workdays and lates, there is of course some flexibility in that, and flexible working requests will be considered.

Key tasks

* Collect and preserve evidence from multiple sources in an admissible format to support investigations.
* Take ownership of rape investigations as OIC, engaging appropriately with victims to ensure evidence is gathered effectively for both children and adults.
* Interview victims, witnesses and suspects in line with PIP2 standards, gathering evidence and identifying further lines of enquiry.
* Complete risk assessments and provide appropriate victim support, including safety plans where required.
* Inform victims about available services, signpost to support agencies, and explain Criminal Justice and Coronial processes.

While the locations of the current vacancies are set out in this advert, there may be the requirement for staff to work from alternative locations within the Force area.

What you’ll bring

* Applicants must be accredited under the Professionalising Investigations Programme (College of Policing) to Level 2. Maintenance of this accreditation / competence requires demonstration of CPD against the recognised professional standards.
* The Successful candidate will have a detailed understanding of the criminal justice system and a thorough and meticulous approach to undertaking tasks. They must have a proven ability to deliver within tight timescales and experience of interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses.
* You will be required to attend a one-day personal safety / first aid course.
* You must have the ability to travel around the force area as part of this role therefore it is desirable that applicants have a full UK driving licence.

We know it’s important for you to feel that you’re not only part of a great team, but part of a community. We welcome applications from suitably qualified people from all sections of the community, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation. Harnessing these differences creates a productive environment in which everyone feels valued, and their talents are fully utilised. Appointments are based on merit alone.
