Lead Dietitian MHSOP Maternity Cover

We're delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Lead Dietitian to join our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP) team within the North Yorkshire and York locality, covering a 12-month maternity leave. This role makes a difference to the nutritional care of older people living with functional (e.g., depression, psychosis) and organic conditions (e.g., vascular and Alzheimer's dementia).

You will provide expert inpatient dietetic care to:

* Foss Park Hospital (York): two wards
* Springwood Hospital (Malton): one ward
* When required, supporting at Cross Lane Hospital (Scarborough): one ward

Working as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary environment, you'll lead and deliver high quality, person centred dietetic assessment and interventions tailored to complex needs. You must have the Right to Work in the UK in order to be successfully appointed to this role. Please note, the starting salary for this role would not meet the required salary threshold for this post to be eligible for sponsorship under the Health and Care (Skilled Worker) visa.


Main duties of the job

* Deliver comprehensive inpatient dietetic assessment and interventions tailored to complex needs across MHSOP wards at Foss Park and Springwood.
* Provide specialist input for a broad range of presentations, including functional and organic diagnoses.
* Contribute to full assessment of needs by the multi-disciplinary team, including input to formulation meetings, falls management and physical health / frailty care.
* Provide clinical supervision and support for a band 3 dietetic support worker and band 5 dietitians.
* Lead and contribute to service development, audit, research activities, and pathway development to improve nutritional care outcomes.
* Deliver training to multidisciplinary clinical teams and facilitate student training/placements.
* Work collaboratively within the MDT to ensure person centred, evidence based nutrition support aligned to national guidance.
* Maintain high standards of clinical documentation, governance, and professional practice.

Our Dietetic Service is the largest specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability dietetic team in the UK, with strong links to the British Dietetic Association. We provide specialist dietetic input across Adult Eating Disorders, Adult Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, Learning Disabilities, and Secure Inpatient Services. You'll join a highly experienced network of Clinical Specialist and Lead Dietitians, supported by our Professional Head of Dietetics.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Pre-registration qualification in dietetics (relevant professional field) as recognised by HCPC) Registration with HCPC.
* Registration with HCPC
* Evidence of post-registration Masters level learning Or in the absence of masters level learning o equivalent experience in relevant area. E.g. relevant level 7 courses, researcher role, quality improvement activity, leading service development, project management, strategic leadership, NICE involvement, service evaluation.
* Substantial clinical experience of complex dietetics delivery in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others.
* International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 7 (SLT =8) for International recruits


Experience/Knowledge

* Experience of supporting people with mental health conditions, learning disability or autism
* Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities or autism
* Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team
* Complex clinical risk assessment and application in practice
* Substantial knowledge of evidence- based practice in designated specialist are
* Comprehensive awareness of professional standards and their application to practice


Skills

* Participation in clinical governance and clinical audit / practice quality assurance
* Experience of supervising staff and / or students
* Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of application of relevant legislation for example the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Duty of Candour and associated policies, procedures, and supports others to do so.
* Demonstrable leadership qualities e.g. role modelling of vales and behaviour, active listening, use of evidence base and implementation of standards, ability to make complex judgements
* Commitment to partnership working and the principles of co-production / co-creation
