Are you looking for a renowned school with a collaborative, positive, and solution-focused approach to work?
We are seeking an exceptional Head of Religious Studies to lead a dynamic and forward-thinking department from January (or earlier).
Job Overview
As Head of Religious Studies, you will provide academic and strategic leadership for a successful department that delivers Religious Studies across Key Stages 3 to 5. You will inspire both staff and students through your passion for philosophy, theology, and ethics, while shaping an engaging and thought-provoking curriculum that reflects the school’s inclusive ethos.
The School
The school is known for its inclusive and diverse community, where safeguarding, student welfare, and staff well-being are paramount. It promotes a culture of reflection, respect, and professional growth.
Parents frequently praise the school as “incredibly supportive and inclusive,” noting the strong relationships built between teachers, students, and families.
The Religious Studies Department plays a central role in the Humanities Faculty. Its curriculum promotes critical thinking, ethical understanding, and global awareness, helping students navigate complex philosophical and moral issues. The department regularly hosts guest speakers, coordinates interfaith events, and organises trips to cultural and religious sites in the UK and abroad — offering students a rich, experiential education.
Your Role as Head of Religious Studies
 * Provide inspirational leadership and vision for the Religious Studies Department.
 * Oversee curriculum planning and ensure high standards of teaching and learning across KS3–KS5.
 * Lead, mentor, and support departmental staff, fostering collaboration and professional development.
 * Teach engaging, intellectually challenging lessons that promote independent thought and debate.
 * Coordinate enrichment opportunities such as guest lectures, interfaith projects, and educational visits.
 * Contribute actively to the Humanities Faculty and wider school community.
Experience and Qualifications
 * Degree in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or a closely related field.
 * A formal teaching qualification with QTS (e.g. PGCE).
 * Proven experience teaching Religious Studies to A Level.
 * Demonstrated leadership or management experience within a school setting.
 * Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
 * The legal right to work in the UK.
 * A genuine enthusiasm for promoting inclusive, reflective, and values-based education.
