Your new role This role would suit an experienced Management Accountant or junior Finance Business Partner, who has experience in financial planning. Act as the primary finance partner for key budget holders, building strong relationships and providing strategic financial insight to support effective decision‑making. Lead the preparation of accurate expenditure budgets and forecasts, including project‑related activity where required. Review and interpret management reports, delivering clear, value‑adding commentary and advising budget holders on how to respond to changing financial performance and prioritise objectives. Monitor financial performance across assigned areas, such as departmental contribution and delivery against operational or project budgets. Ensure inputs into the organisation's strategic plan are robust, realistic, and achievable. Analyse financial and non‑financial trends, comparing current performance to previous years and external benchmarks, and recommend actions to address risks or inefficiencies. Assess and communicate the financial implications of new and existing contracts, ensuring compliance with University policy and alignment with Faculty/Directorate objectives, while continually tracking financial performance. Provide ad‑hoc financial analysis and develop business cases to ensure investment proposals are fully costed, understood, and clearly communicated to senior leadership. Identify opportunities for cost savings or income generation and escalate recommendations to leaders. Lead post‑investment and project appraisal financial analysis to evaluate outcomes and return on investment. Liaise with internal and external auditors on relevant projects to support audit requirements. What you'll need to succeed Essential Studying towards or willing to study an agreed accountancy qualification Highly organised and methodical in approach Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels Strong numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail, with a habit of checking your own work Clear and confident communication skills Able to work independently as well as part of a team Performs well under pressure and adapts quickly to changing priorities. Strong multi‑tasking skills and able to manage your own workload to meet deadlines.
