Supportability Engineer

How do you ensure next-generation defence technology is not only high performing — but reliable, maintainable and cost-effective throughout its lifecycle?
As a Supportability Engineer, you will play a critical role in analysing, assessing and influencing the design of Leonardo’s next-generation products. Working closely with multi-disciplinary teams, you will ensure solutions meet customer requirements while embedding reliability, availability and maintainability from the outset.
What you will do as Supportability Engineer:
1. Own and contribute to a range of Supportability analysis tasks
2. Develop and apply through-life costing principles
3. Tailor programmes of work to applicable standards and guidance
4. Apply Supportability tools effectively and appropriately
5. Contribute confidently to team tasks and technical outputs
6. Work closely with cross-functional disciplines as part of daily programme activity
7. Produce work independently, exercising sound engineering judgement
8. Support and develop other team members
9. Identify problems independently and propose practical solutions
10. Peer review colleagues’ work
11. Identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
What you’ll bring
12. Experience supporting design reviews and customer meetings, presenting ILS evidence and guidance
13. Experience working on mission-critical programmes with awareness of the Defence Logistics Framework and Def Stan 00-600
14. Understanding across ILS methods including supportability analysis, software support, safety, supply support, maintenance and progressive assurance
15. Experience applying AR&M methodologies within engineering projects
16. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and build trust
Helpful tooling (nice to have):
17. Higher National Certificate or above in a relevant engineering or science discipline, or equivalent industry/defence experience
18. Familiarity with tools such as PTC Windchill Risk and Reliability, Reliasoft, OPUS, Simlox, Matlab/Simulink, Raytheon EAGLE suite, Jira or Python

We have an opportunity to tailor the responsibilities of the role to the experience of the candidate, so we are open to candidates with all levels of supportability experience and knowledge with aspirations to develop. The most important skill is a good attitude and willingness to learn.

This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personnel Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
