Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6/ Annex 21)

Applications are invited from suitably experienced and motivated individuals to fill the role of Specialist Biomedical Scientist. We are looking for HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists with significant Microbiology experience that have completed their IBMS Specialist Diploma in Microbiology. Experience of working in a Containment Level 3 environment is desirable but not essential.
For applicants applying for Band 6 Annex 21, these candidates, if successful, will be required to complete their Specialist Portfolio (or equivalent) and the schedule of in-house training provided within the agreed time scale prior to progression to Band 6 and the salary will be paid at Annex 21 of the A4C Terms & Conditions.
This post is based in the Scottish Mycobacteria Reference Laboratory which is integrated and co-located within the NHS Lothian Mycobacteria Laboratory at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The successful candidate will contribute to the work performed by both of these laboratories.
The hours for this post will be between 9-5 Monday to Friday exact hours can be discussed.

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:
1. up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
2. more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified.
3. more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
4. more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
