We are working in partnership with a Hackney school who are looking to appointment a school experienced Science Technician starting as soon as possible on a long-term basis.
The Science Technician will play a key role in supporting the delivery of high‑quality science education. Working closely with the Curriculum Manager for Science and teaching staff the post‑holder will ensure that laboratories, equipment, and resources are safe, well‑maintained, and fully prepared to support practical learning.
The role involves managing scientific materials, supporting classroom activities, maintaining health and safety standards, and contributing to the smooth running of the science provision across the school.
Key Responsibilities & Duties

Maintain high standards of laboratory safety and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.

Prepare, organise, and provide scientific equipment and materials for lessons at scheduled times.
*
Running trials of experiments and demonstrations.
*
Support teachers and students during practical experiments and learning activities.
*
Manage the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and materials in line with approved procedures.
*
Ensure laboratories, prep rooms, and storerooms remain clean, tidy, and well‑organised.
*
Monitor equipment and services, reporting faults or issues to the Senior Science Technician.
*
Provide cover across technical and teaching areas when required to maintain continuity of service.
*
Promote and model safe working practices in all science environments.
*
Supporting the overall work of the Science Department.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Requirements
*
Level 2 in Maths and English (GCSE A–C or equivalent).
*
Desirable: Degree in a science subject.
*
Working knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPSS.
*
Experience working as a laboratory technician in a school or college environment.
*
Understanding of health and safety procedures within a laboratory setting.
*
Ability to support at least one A‑Level science subject and all three sciences at GCSE/Level 2/Level 3 Applied.
*
Strong IT skills relevant to supporting a science department.
*
Practical laboratory workshop skills using a range of tools and materials.
*
Ability to prepare risk assessments.
*
Effective communication skills with both staff and students.
