This role is central to designing and delivering the University’s Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Research Training, working with Faculties, professional services, supervisors and external partners. The postholder also supports doctoral researchers and oversees the academic review of complex or non‐standard doctoral applications. The role may be available as a secondment, subject to line‐manager approval.In addition to the generic Teaching and Scholarship Band 8 responsibilities, the postholder will provide academic leadership and operational oversight as Programme Director for the University’s Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Research Training. The postholder will be responsible for the strategic development, academic quality, coherence and ongoing enhancement of the programme, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy, the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, UKRI and other funder requirements, and relevant quality assurance frameworks.The role includes leadership of curriculum design, review and evaluation of accredited researcher development provision, oversight of teaching and learning delivery, teaching across the Level 7 modules delivered by the Doctoral College and monitoring of engagement, progression and outcomes. The postholder will work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues toensure an excellent and inclusive postgraduate researcher experience, informed by evaluation, metrics, student feedback and external benchmarking.The postholder will provide academic leadership to staff contributing to the programme, coordinating teaching teams, contributing to workload planning, mentoring colleagues, and supporting professional development in PGR education. They will play a key role in institutional committees and working groups relating to postgraduate research, researcher development and doctoral education.In addition, the postholder will contribute to doctoral student support across the lifecycle, working with the Doctoral College to advise on complex cases, suspensions, extensions and progression matters. The role includes academic oversight of special and non-standard doctoral applications, ensuring consistent, fair and academically robust decision-making in line with university regulations and external requirements.The postholder will represent the University internally and externally in matters relating to postgraduate researcher training, contributing to outreach, recruitment activity, external partnerships and sector networks.
