Overview
A Locum Post to cover maternity leave: Consultant Obstetrician (10 PA) for a fixed term of 1 year starting from 1 October.
Main duties
The post holder will complement existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Obstetrics & Maternal Medicine. The post holder is required to have full GMC registration with a valid license to practice and be on the specialist register for Obstetrics & Gynaecology or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview. This is a locum post (10 PA). The post holder will join a team of 19 existing Obstetric Consultants and be part of a Maternal Medicine team of 7 consultants to form a larger team of 19 Consultants in Obstetrics based at the James Cook University Hospital.
The post includes Antenatal clinics (twice a week), Ward rounds, Caesarean section lists and Postnatal clinics which will be included in the job plan. The post is offered initially on a 10 PA basis and the post holder is expected to contribute to on call duties (4th on call, non-resident) supporting specialist resident doctors (second and third on call) and another junior resident doctor (first on call).
There are 18 consultants covering the unit during daytime/nighttime. A flexible rota design is offered. The consultant rota comprises LD (8am-8pm) and nights (8pm-8am). Nighttime on call frequency is 1:16 for full-time consultants. Nighttime on call is resident until 22:00 / 7 days per week and non-resident thereafter dependent on clinical requirements.
What you will be doing
Prospective applicants must have full GMC registration including a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register (or be within 6 months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
The post includes on-call duties and participation in a consultant rota as described above, with involvement in clinical service delivery and supervision of junior medical staff.

Person Specification
Experience (Essential):
* Clinical experience equivalent to completion of a formal training program in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Evidence of teaching/training junior medical staff and undergraduate students
Qualifications (Essential):
* Full GMC registration
* Evidence of completion of formal training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
* Membership of RCOG or equivalent
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of interview
Desirable:
* Qualifications in other specialist skills (Maternal Medicine SST or ATSM/High Risk pregnancy/Labour ward ATSM)
* Educational Supervisor Training
Knowledge (Essential):
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients
* Ability to organise, prioritise, delegate, and manage; effective communication with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
Desirable:
* IT skills
* Experience in counselling
