This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team on the day-to-day activities of the regime. This role involves working alongside efforts on regulatory reform and supporting the transition of the regime from reform to ‘business as usual’.
The role's duties and responsibilities include:
Providing technical leadership in waste classification
Leading Hazardous Waste compliance initiatives and internal improvements
Enhancing leadership of priority waste streams
Offering technical support focused on priority waste streams, driven by area and national teams
Addressing regulatory challenges, improving the regulatory regime, and supporting Defra's circular economy work on Hazardous Waste
Focusing on enforcement to support actions in the control strategy aimed at reducing offending
The team
The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small, high-performing group within the Regime Regulation team of E&B Waste Regulation. We lead on hazardous waste management, supporting government, industry, and colleagues to ensure proper handling of hazardous waste.

Additional information
You will have an inclusive incident management objective in your development plan, with support to find a suitable role. Flexible/hybrid working arrangements are available, with some travel and overnight stays possible.
