Job overview

Working in two main areas of the ED Department, postholderswill undertake the responsibilities associated with a fullreception service for the main department. You will beexpected to deal with all patients arriving at the hospital via GPsurgeries, 111 service, Ambulance or self-referral. The PatientReception Coordination role is to ensure the effectiveness ofpatient flow in the department. Liaise closely with the nurse incharge to release clinical staff from non-clinical duties.Theseroles areinter-dependentofoneanother.

Act at the ED Staff Base as the first point of contact to anyone visiting or contactingthe Staff Base, including providing information and advice to patients, visitors andstaff being mindful of patient confidentiality; directing visitors to appropriate areas asrequired,providespecialassistanceto thosewithcommunicationdifficulties.

Please note: This role does not meet the minimum criteria for visa sponsorship under the current UK immigration rules, which set specific salary and skill thresholds. ·To advise the Overseas Team of any overseas patients to enable the Trust to invoicethepatientandrecoupcost.

·Provide a patient co-ordination and administrative service to all members of the multi-disciplinary team to maintain patient flow, in particular working directly with the NurseInChargetoensureacoordinatedapproach.

·Ensure close communication with colleagues working in the Reception area:informing them of expected resuscitation, trauma or accepted patients by otherspecialties,givinganypatientdetailssothatinformationisreadyandtreatmentis notdelayedonpatientarrival.

·Use bleep system to contact medical and nursing staff of different specialties:informingthemofpatientarrival;ensuretheyareawareofpatientsituationinrelationtowaitingtargets.

·Highlight breach times of patients to the Nurse In Charge, patient’s named nurse anddoctor.

·Assist patient relatives and friends where possible e.g. telephone calls; making suretheyarekeptinformedofpatienttreatment.

·Support the Administration Team by arranging or covering staff absence, sometimesatshortnotice,toensurethemaintenanceof24hourcover.

Prior to submission of your application for any internal secondment or fixed term post, please ensure that you have discussed this with your line manager to obtain their approval.

If you do not have written approval from your current line manager to take this position if successful as an internal secondment opportunity, it would be offered as a fixed term position.
