This is a full‑time post, and a fixed‑term contract will be offered until 31 March 2027.

Essential criteria

1. PhD qualified in a relevant subject area, e.g. data science, computer science, AI/NLP*
2. Experience in Data Science techniques, especially data analysis and prediction modelling, evidenced by publications and/or dissertation, or equivalent evidence of expertise and completed research outputs
3. Understanding of AI and, especially, deep learning techniques, with a demonstrable understanding of LLMs
4. Proven ability to write code in Python
5. Experience working in a research environment
6. Excellent writing and communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to a non‑technical audience

Desirable criteria

1. Experience working with NHS data or other medical data
2. Experience working with text data
3. Demonstrable knowledge of ML Ops
4. Good knowledge of best practices in data analysis in Python

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
