About the Role

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and committed to delivering safe, equitable, and high-quality maternity care for all māma, pēpi, and whānau.

We're proud to be part of the nationally led Maternity Quality and Safety Programme (MQSP) - a cornerstone of continuous improvement in maternity services across Aotearoa.

We're seeking a passionate and experienced midwife to lead the coordination of the MQSP in Te Matau a Māui Hawkes Bay.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of our efforts to improve outcomes for māma, pēpi, and whānau. You'll work collaboratively with clinical teams, consumer representatives, and national stakeholders to deliver evidence-based improvements, drive innovation, and ensure our services reflect the needs of our community.

You'll also lead clinical audits, produce the annual clinical report, and support the implementation of quality and safety initiatives across the maternity service.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You'll be based in the Maternity Service at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital, working closely with the Chief Midwife, Te Kaihaukura Māori Midwife Lead, midwifery teams, consumer representatives, and wider clinical and support staff.

Our service is guided by Te Mauri o Rongo and the Hau Te Kura review, which emphasises culturally safe, whānau-centred care and equity for Māori and Pasifika.

This is a collaborative, values-driven environment where your leadership will help shape the future of maternity care in Te Matau a Māui.

Hawkes Bay offers excellent work-life balance, sun, beaches, exceptional outdoor adventures, great schools, mountains and skiing close by, wonderful food and stunning wineries, vibrant cities and plenty more to boast about.

About you

You're a registered midwife with a strong background in clinical practice and a passion for improving maternity outcomes. You'll bring:

* A current New Zealand Midwifery Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
* At least 5 years of relevant midwifery experience.
* A postgraduate qualification or study in a relevant field (e.g., quality improvement, leadership, public health).
* Proven skills in project coordination, stakeholder engagement, and clinical governance.
* Confidence in interpreting data, writing reports, and leading audits.
* A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally safe practice.
* Desired: Knowledge of the health sector's political and legislative landscape, and experience leading teams within the sector.

Working at Health New Zealand

We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community. We welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
