City of York Council wish to recruit a Domestic Abuse Engagement Officer to support their Domestic Abuse portfolio.
We are looking for a highly motivated and passionate individual, ideally with extensive knowledge of the domestic abuse field, to help us raise awareness of this important issue across York, helping to ensure individuals affected get access to the right support at the right the time.
Good interpersonal, presentation and project management skills are essential for this role as the successful candidate will be required to develop and deliver information packages to professionals, and community and business organisations, across the city. They will also build relationships with key stakeholders to gather the authentic voice of victims, engaging with victims of domestic abuse where required.
This is a hybrid role which will involve face to face working in community settings on a weekly basis, as well as some office-based and remote home working using MS teams. Knowledge and experience of working with children's services would also be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be well supported to perform this role, with opportunity given to gain experience across other areas of public health work within the department as part of career development where this fits with departmental objectives and areas of work.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
The duties of this post require the postholder to undertake a basic Criminal Record check (unspent convictions only) via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Hybrid working arrangements are available for this role. Each role at CYC is different and your working arrangements will be determined based on the requirements of the role and in collaboration with you and your needs as part of the recruitment process. Your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team.
