Under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief/Captain, Fire Fighters are responsible to attend and protect the public by controlling and extinguishing fires, performing rescues, maintaining equipment, practicing fire prevention and responding to dangerous goods incidents. This is physically demanding & potentially dangerous.
Firefighters will be paid based on an On-Call system.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
* Firefighters are responsible to attend all Emergencies when paged out by Fire Department including, but not limited to:
* emergency rescue and fire suppression;
* perform search and rescue for trapped or injured persons;
* perform emergency medical and first aid services as needed;
* prepare reports regarding emergency incidents as assigned.
* Drive fire apparatus and/or operate fire apparatus on emergency calls or at incident scene.
* Maintain fire facilities, grounds, equipment and apparatus;
* Participate in a variety of fire prevention operations, activities and programs including training, fire investigations; code enforcement and equipment operation and maintenance; participate in activities and operations in response to natural disasters, major accidents, incidents involving hazardous materials, and other emergency situations; identify, analyze and avoid hazardous and dangerous situations.
* Respond to a variety of hazardous materials incidents; to perform defensive or offensive activities which will be dependent upon levels of certification; maintain knowledge and training about hazardous materials.
* Community relations- school visits, hall tours, educational courses
* Perform other related job duties and related job tasks as assigned by upper-level supervisory staff
Education, Skills & Qualifications:
* Fire Fighting Training NFPA 1001- Level I, Level II considered an asset
* Occupational/Standard First Aid or Industrial First Aid, EMR or EMT and asset
* Knowledge of firefighting techniques/methods and emergency response techniques
* Knowledge of firefighting and public education and awareness programs
* Excellent judgement, diplomacy, inter-personnel, and conflict resolution skills
* Ability to work in a team environment
* Ability to speak Stoney considered an asset
Working Conditions
* Minimum class 5 Driver’s License. Class 4 with Q endorsement an asset;
* Ability to obtain a clean criminal record check with vulnerable sector
* Physical and Medical Fitness Assessment
* Applicants must be a Stoney Nation band Member and reside within the community.
Previous fire training is not required to join the fire department- All training is provided at no cost and trainees will be compensated for training time. Accredited fire training will be provided through the fire departments external sources.
