Overview of position
The In-house Legal Counsel is a trusted advisor who proactively addresses risks and opportunities, providing strategic advice, legal and compliance insights and end-to-end legal support to create value for the Captivate businesses and our clients.
Responsible for the provision of analysis and strategic and timely advice tailored to the business’ needs, you will personally handle a large amount of commercial and corporate matters, and ensure the involvement of the right internal and external experts and other resources where necessary, to achieve this.

Captivate is a group of four agencies, with specialisms in PR, Events, Social Media and Retail Design. We operate in the UK, USA and EMEA
Key Objectives of the Job
· Manage and provide legal advice to all Captivate businesses, including their management teams.
· Develop and ensure implementation of legal strategic plan, policies and best practices for the Captivate businesses, to help ensure the realisation of strategic objectives and to consistently add value.
· Monitor legal developments in the UK market and communicate and act on relevant issues and developments.
· Standardise legal and compliance matters across the different Captivate businesses.
· Provide input and be involved in strategic projects, including M&A, regulatory issues and litigation.
· Manage and direct outside counsel, including holding budgetary responsibility.
· Provide company secretarial services to a group of four private companies.
· Advise on governance issues including compliance with company law processes, data protection, modern slavery, failure to prevent tax evasion and fraud.
· Full responsibility for legal compliance and risk.
Job Requirements
· At this stage we are only considering candidates with experience of working within a marketing services company
· Admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales, with five or more years post-qualified relevant experience.
· Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements and legal documents.
· Substantive knowledge in a broad range of legal disciplines, including dispute resolution, advertising and marketing law, a solid working knowledge of intellectual property principles, knowledge of M&A and compliance matters.
· Excellent analytical, counselling, communication and interpersonal skills with sound legal, ethical and commercial judgment.
· Proven effective negotiator and facilitator and experience in interacting with and leading professionals.
· Excellent English language skills, spoken and written.
· Ability to organize and provide hands-on legal service and the provision of an effective legal service whether internally or through the management of external counsel.
· Proven ability to engage, operate and influence at senior levels of the organisation.
