PRINCIPAL SOCIAL WORKER – Cardiff Council, hybrid work in Cardiff, United Kingdom. Open to applicants with the latest education/graduate GCSE. Leadership role in this field. This vacancy is in the Leadership domain and is open to job seekers as published.

Responsibilities

About The Service
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Emergency Duty Team (EDT) as a Principal Social Worker. The Emergency Duty Team provides an out-of-hours service, responding to statutory emergencies and other social work matters that cannot be safely left until the following working day. Our EDT service is a regional partnership arrangement with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, hosted and managed by Cardiff Council to all citizens across the two local authority areas, working collaboratively with partner agencies and other emergency services. We are looking for committed individuals to join our team at an exciting time of service development.

About the Job

As an EDT Principal Social Worker you will have a commitment to safeguarding and upholding the rights of children, young people and adults, and to working in a strength-based, preventative way. In a rewarding, diverse but complex environment, you will deal with a range of cases from child protection to mental health act assessments, and decisions that need to be made in the context of each individual case to achieve optimum outcomes. You will be committed to working in a way that promotes equality and inclusion for all our citizens and work closely with other agencies such as the Police and Health professionals. The contractual hours will be 18.5 hours per week, working as part of a rolling rota which attract additional allowances for unsocial hours. You will have regular formal and informal supervision from the EDT Service Lead. This role currently attracts a market supplement of £3,000 (pro rata), reviewed annually, and unsocial hours shift allowances. An AMHP allowance of £2,800 (pro rata) will also be paid to suitably qualified candidates. As a Cardiff Social Worker, you will have access to a comprehensive range of resources and support to continue your professional development. We take the welfare of our staff seriously and strive to deliver positive working arrangements that support our workforce to feel respected and valued, including:

* A generous annual leave entitlement starting at 28 days per year to a maximum of 33 days per year after 5 years, with the option to purchase additional annual leave up to 10 days.
* Hybrid working - flexibly delivering your role whether on visits, in an office or from home.
* Access to the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Pension Fund as part of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
* Excellent training and development opportunities provided by a dedicated social care training team, whether you are newly qualified or an experienced practitioner.
* Mentorship and a senior management team that recognises achievements and celebrates success.
* Competitive salary including a Market Supplement, AMHP Allowance and unsocial hours shift allowances.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for qualified Social Workers with experience of safeguarding in adults and children. You will have extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and be committed to ongoing professional development. You will possess excellent assessment and analytical skills and be able to make sound risk assessments and decisions in a crisis. You will have experience of assessing risk and complex needs of vulnerable adults and children and be able to work autonomously and collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies. You will demonstrate high standards of professional practice including good record keeping, ICT competence and prompt and effective handover to daytime services and colleagues. You will have good communication skills and be able to work effectively with service users, colleagues, senior management, and other professional bodies as required. A degree in Social Work or equivalent Social Work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales are essential, as well as being an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) for which an additional allowance is paid.
