About The Role: Days of Working: Monday - Friday 07:30am - 16:00pm Facilities Porters at Sussex Estates and Facilities play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment across the University’s academic buildings. As the first point of contact for students, staff, and visitors, Porters provide friendly assistance while carrying out essential cleaning, minor maintenance, and safety checks. This hands-on role requires a commitment to high standards, professionalism, and excellent customer service, helping to ensure that campus spaces are well cared for and that everyone feels supported and respected. As part of your role, your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Act as the first point of contact for residents and visitors, providing information, handling inquiries, and resolving issues. Conduct regular safety checks, respond to emergencies (fire, medical, security), and assist with evacuations. Receive, track, and distribute mail and packages, notifying residents of arrivals. Report maintenance issues and liaise with contractors or maintenance staff to ensure timely resolution. Build positive relationships with residents, address concerns professionally, and enforce University policies and conduct regulations. The ideal candidate should meet the following criteria: Must have Right to Work in the UK. A DBS will be completed for the successful candidate. Ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with residents and visitors. Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a welcoming and professional demeanor. Proficient in basic admin tasks such as record-keeping, managing directories, and handling check-in/check-out processes. Capable of responding calmly and effectively to emergencies and unexpected situations. Willingness to collaborate across departments and maintain accuracy in all tasks.
