Are you a skilled and passionate Theatre Practitioner ready to take the next step in your career?

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Theatre Practitioner to join our dedicated Obstetrics and Gynaecology Theatres as a Theatre Co-Ordinator.

As a Team Leader, you will play a pivotal role in leading a specialist team within our theatres, ensuring the highest standards of perioperative care. You will be responsible for coordinating theatre activity, supporting junior staff and working closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver, safe efficient and compassionate care to patients undergoing breast surgery.


Main duties of the job

To support the Clinical manager in the day to day efficient running of the clinical area, by providing strong leadership and direction to the team, monitoring and maintaining standards of care and professional practice.

Assume responsibility for the day to day coordination of all theatre staff and the multi-disciplinary team and ensure that clinical requirements for both elective and emergency sessions are expedited.

Be responsible for facilitating the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the personalised health and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust’s Values /HCPC and Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework and promote effective working relationships with all members of the MDT.

Ensure the productive operation of the clinical area by ensuring that a well organised and safe environment is maintained.

Act as a strong role model and encourage and support the professional development of development of self and others. Provide clinical supervision and direction for all colleagues and students to support them in reaching their full potential.

Provide professional leadership and operational management of theatres and in the absence of the Clinical Manager, provide support and expert clinical advice .

To act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust’s values and & Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework goals, working as part of a team to ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Assist and support the Clinical Manager in the
safe and effective management of the service
including management of staff, facilities and
associated systems and processes.
2. Communicate all relevant information to the
multidisciplinary team internally and with external
organisations as required, to ensure seamless
care
3. Acts as a role model presenting a positive image
of self, the team and the organisation.
4. Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination
of care, making optimal use of operating
sessions. Identify potential bottlenecks and
facilitate smooth patient flow through the
department.
5. Ensure a high standard of service delivery is
delivered by self and others based on assessment,
planning, implementation and evaluation of care to
meet patients’ needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based
guidelines.
6. Set, monitor and maintain standards of care to
improve the patient experience and outcome of care.
7. Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety,
conforming to health, safety and security legislation,
policies, procedures and guidelines.
8. Communicate all relevant information to the
multidisciplinary team internally and with external
organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
9. Promote provision of patient education and health
promotion
10. Promote equality in care and practice by recognising,
respecting and meeting the needs and choices of
individuals
11. Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped
and compliant with standards for hygiene and
cleanliness.
12. Participate in education and training of junior staff
encouraging professional growth and development.
13. Maintain and develop own professional competence
and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge
and skills within scope of role and professional
practice

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria

14. Registered Nurse with current NMC registration / Registered ODP with current HCPC registration
15. Post registration Anaesthetic course if not an ODP
16. Evidence of CPD ( experienced band 5 ‘s)
17. Basic IT skills

Desirable criteria

18. Degree
19. NMC Recognised mentorship qualification or willingness to working towards within 18 months
20. IV drug administration
21. Venepuncture and cannulation
22. Transfer course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

23. Experience within the anaesthetic practitioner role
24. Willingness to expand clinical role
25. Awareness of current issues in practice
26. Knowledge of policies and procedures relevant to practice

Desirable criteria

27. Knowledge of ethical issues
28. Knowledge of Harris Flex and Evolve
