Rappahannock Community College (RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC seeks applicants for a Custodial Technician who shares RCC’s values of integrity, diversity, equity, inclusion, excellence, access, and learning for life. This position is a full-time 12-month classified position, with an excellent benefits package. Anticipated salary is commensurate with experience and will be $33,000 or greater.
Reporting to the Glenns campus Facilities Manager, the Custodial Technician maintains a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position typically works Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional weekend and night shifts. Some cross-campus and alternate schedules will be required during special events. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, public areas, and restrooms. This position will also gather and dispose of refuse, remove recycling, restock and inventory supplies and strip, wax and clean floors and carpets.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
1. Experience in the performance of cleaning tasks, floor care, restroom cleaning, and general custodial care.
2. Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment with a diverse group of employees, students, and visitors to the college campus.
3. Knowledge of cleaning methods and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies and safety practices as related to the work.
4. Ability to effectively work in a team or independently.
5. Ability to effectively communicate and possess basic computer skills and knowledge, including email.
6. Ability to routinely lift, push, or pull 20 pounds and occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
7. Knowledge of and ability to apply safety techniques to be used in day-to-day custodial operations.
Additional Considerations
8. Knowledge and skill in proper cleaning techniques and stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and shampooing carpets (dry and wet methods).
9. Ability to operate buffers, wet and dry vacuums and other custodial equipment.
10. High school graduate or equivalent.
11. Valid Virginia driver’s license.
12. Commercial housekeeping experience.
13. Knowledge of and experience with cleaning chemicals & industrial custodial equipment.
