About the Role

We’re looking for a versatile R&D Technician to join our growing engineering team. While testing and validation remain the core focus of this position, the role is intentionally broad – supporting research, development, and engineering activities across early-stage concept work, prototyping, and product refinement.

In this hands-on role, you’ll plan, build, and execute a wide range of functional, performance, and reliability tests on prototypes and new products, ensuring our designs are robust, safe, and ready for production. You’ll also support R&D activities by assembling prototypes, assisting with development rigs and fixtures, and providing practical technical input during early concept evaluations.

You’ll collaborate closely with design and development engineers, translating test results into clear, actionable feedback that drives continuous improvement. This role will suit a practical, detail-oriented technician who enjoys combining hands-on technical work with structured analysis and cross-functional support.

Our work supports industries where precision, performance, and reliability matter. As we continue to grow, we’re investing in new technologies, strengthening our development processes, and expanding our product portfolio. It’s an exciting time to join us and contribute to a collaborative, fast-moving, and purpose-driven environment.

* Maintain accurate records of test activities, results, and deviations
* Contribute to early-stage evaluation work by providing practical build, measurement, and test support

Collaboration, Troubleshooting & Cross-Team Support

* Work closely with design engineers, providing clear, actionable feedback to guide design improvements
* Assist in troubleshooting issues discovered during testing and support root-cause investigations
* Liaise with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external labs to support validation and development activities
* Provide general R&D support where hands-on technical input is required

Continuous Improvement & Equipment Management

* Contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and lead time
* Ensure test equipment, tools, and fixtures are maintained, calibrated, and ready for use
* Help improve documentation, processes, and test methods across the engineering team

Requirements

Education & Experience

* NVQ, ONC, BTEC, or equivalent in Electronics, Electro-Mechanical, or Mechanical Engineering preferred
* Equivalent hands-on experience in a technical, assembly, or testing role also considered

Technical Skills

* Experience using test equipment and mechanical measuring tools
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
* Experience building prototypes or working with electro-mechanical assemblies
* Basic fault-finding and root-cause analysis skills
* Competent with Microsoft Office (Excel for data logging/analysis, Word for reports, Outlook for communication)
* Experience with SMD re-work, soldering, and creating SOPs is a plus

Personal Attributes

* Hands-on problem solver with a methodical, structured approach
* Comfortable managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
* Detail-oriented, ensuring accuracy in test setups and documentation
* Clear communicator able to give concise technical feedback
* Proactive, adaptable, and keen to learn new skills
