Project Details
The successful Managing Quantity Surveyor will work on a range of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, typically valued between £250,000 and £6 million, with most schemes around £1 million.
Projects are delivered across the UK and may include specialist engineering works supporting construction and infrastructure delivery.
Responsibilities and Duties
The Managing Quantity Surveyor will play a key commercial leadership role, ensuring effective cost management and contract administration across multiple projects.
1. Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple civil engineering projects
2. Administer NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, ensuring compliance and best practice
3. Lead on early warning notices and compensation events
4. Oversee cost forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting
5. Manage programme integration and alignment with risk registers
6. Provide commercial advice to project teams and senior stakeholders
7. Monitor project performance and identify commercial risks and opportunities
8. Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required
9. Attend client meetings and occasionally travel to project sites across the UK
10. Ensure projects are delivered within budget and in line with contractual obligations
Desired Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor with strong NEC contract knowledge and a background in civil engineering or infrastructure projects.
11. Proven experience as a Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
12. Strong working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts
13. Experience managing early warning notices and compensation events
14. Demonstrated ability to integrate programme and risk management processes
15. Background in civil engineering, infrastructure, or general civils projects
16. Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills
17. Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
18. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
19. Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites across the UK
Qualifications/Educational Requirements
20. Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related field
21. Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards is desirable
22. Relevant professional training in NEC contracts is advantageous
