Job Summary
We are looking for a highly motivated Locum Consultant Physician with expertise in General and Acute Medicine to supplement our established team of 10 WTE colleagues. The successful candidate will work closely with specialists across the Trust to manage patients on the Acute Medicine Unit and Same Day Emergency Care.
Responsibilities
* Lead the acute assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of patients.
* Stabilise and manage patients with medical emergencies.
* Provide clinical oversight during on‑call duties, ensuring safety overnight.
* Lead the ambulatory care service and participate in service development opportunities.
* Collaborate with ED, specialty teams and other clinicians to address patient needs.
* Participate in teaching programmes and contribute to the Consultant Staff Committee.
* Attend scheduled diabetes and endocrine clinics (6 per month).
Qualifications (Essential)
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* CCT in General Internal Medicine, Acute Medicine or a related specialty on specialist register (or within 6 months of CCT at interview).
Qualifications (Desirable)
* Acute Medicine related diploma.
* MSc, MD or equivalent.
* Evidence of teaching and training of junior staff.
* Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
* Experience in research or published papers in a relevant area.
Aptitudes and Experience
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven track record of effective work in multidisciplinary teams.
* Enthusiasm for service development and training of junior staff.
* Management experience (desirable).
* Transportable and able to live within 30 minutes travelling time to the Trust.
* Ability to work with COVID positive patients and commitment to the Trust’s values.
Communication Skills
* Effective communication with clinical colleagues, pathology staff and support teams.
* Strong presentation skills with the ability to respond to questions and queries.
