Sample Reception Team Leader

Job Profile
As a Sample Reception Team Leader, you will ensure all samples received are processed in a timely manner according to laboratory protocol. To supervise section staff and to lead in developing role of the MLAs in the laboratory.
Job Type: This is a permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week.
Shifts: Monday to Friday

Key Duties
Ensure that all samples are processed in a timely fashion and adequate turnaround times are maintained.
Undertake preliminary preparation of specimens as required.
Supervise the area's medical laboratory assistants, ensuring they are given training and competency testing at regular intervals.
Ensure the extended working day is covered by an appropriate number of suitably trained staff.
To be able to follow laboratory procedures and to use own discretion to prioritise own work.
To supervise referrals and ensure carried out in a timely manner, with quality excellence and value-for-money assured for all referred work.
Ensure the prompt dispatch of samples needing to be referred to external laboratories and maintain accurate records of work sent out of the department.
Ensure routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment such as centrifuges according to laboratory procedures is performed.
Undertake any other reasonable duties, relevant to the grade, as delegated through the appropriate channels.
Ensure that a high standard of quality and customer care is developed and maintained within the area.
