Our Felixstowe client is seeking an experienced Import Freight Forwarding Clerk to join their busy logistics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing import shipments from start to finish, ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of sea and road freight consignments. A solid understanding of import customs clearance procedures is essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage import shipments from point of booking through to final delivery.
Liaise with overseas agents, shipping lines, hauliers, and customers to coordinate shipments.
Prepare and process import customs entries using CDS
Check and verify documentation such as bills of lading, invoices, and packing lists.
Arrange collections and deliveries, ensuring deadlines and customer requirements are met.
Provide accurate updates to customers regarding shipment status.
Maintain accurate records and filing in line with company procedures and compliance requirements.
Handle any shipment discrepancies, delays, or queries efficiently and professionally.
Work closely with internal teams to ensure invoicing and cost control accuracy.
Stay updated on current import regulations, commodity codes, and customs procedures.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in import freight forwarding
* Proven experience in import customs clearance and knowledge of UK customs procedures.
* Strong communication and customer service skills.
* Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and freight management systems.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
* Team player with a proactive and professional approach.
