Reporting to: Practice Manager / Senior Accountant
We are a well-established accountancy firm providing professional financial services to a diverse portfolio of clients, including sole traders, limited companies, and subcontractors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Part-Time Accounts Assistant to join our team.
The successful candidate will support the accounts team with day-to-day finance operations, focusing on the CIS scheme, subcontractor payments, and purchase ledger management. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and a background in bookkeeping or accounts administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update the purchase ledger, processing invoices and ensuring timely payments.
Assist in the processing of subcontractor payments, ensuring accurate deductions in line with the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS).
Verify subcontractor details and CIS registration status using HMRC online services.
Prepare and submit monthly CIS returns and statements to HMRC and subcontractors.
Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies.
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in line with company procedures.
Support the preparation of VAT returns, bank reconciliations, and month-end processes.
Assist with ad hoc accounting duties as required by the team or practice manager.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills :
Previous experience in a similar account's role, ideally within a practice or construction-related environment.
Knowledge and experience of working with CIS and subcontractors.
Strong understanding of purchase ledger processes.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
