Part of a major international group, this organization is continuing to invest millions in new manufacturing facilities and CapEx to produce complex high-value components for the automotive industry. Due to continued expansion, a Tooling Project Engineer is urgently sought to support current production and future new product introductions.
Location: Shropshire (commutable from Telford, Shrewsbury, North Birmingham, Kidderminster, Bridgnorth, Cannock, Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley, Stafford areas)
The role:
As a Tooling Project Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the design of new tooling through optimization, build, and buy-off processes to ensure successful introduction into production.
You will be involved in all aspects of tooling, from initial product design, tool optimization design, validation and simulation processes, to tooling vendor project management and tooling buy-off.
1. Review and validate designs, including high-pressure die casting tools, trim/clip tools, spray heads, robot end effectors, jigs, and fixtures against specifications and RFQ.
2. Manage tooling vendors/suppliers, which may involve overseas travel.
3. Produce 2D CAD drawings for products, tooling, fixtures, and equipment to support manufacturing, quality, and engineering activities.
4. Conduct part feasibility reviews and apply design for manufacture (DFM) principles to evaluate product designs, producing summary reports.
5. Maintain a complete understanding of component tolerances, dimensional capability statistics, and GD&T.
Experience:
You should have significant experience in tooling, working as a Tooling Project Engineer or Tool Design Engineer, with expertise in design and project management, gained through experience with:
* Tooling for die casting, metal stamping, or plastic injection molding.
* Knowledge of robot end effectors, jigs & fixtures, runner & cooling design (beneficial).
* Experience with MAGMASOFT simulation software and analysis (desirable).
* Project management, supplier/vendor management, and effective communication skills to build relationships with customers.
