ALTEN UK is seeking a proactive and collaborative Contractor Design Manager to support major infrastructure and energy projects, including high-integrity environments such as nuclear, energy, and regulated sectors. In this key role, you will coordinate and integrate multi-disciplinary design activities, ensuring alignment between contractor, consultants, and the wider project team. You will support the safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of projects through strategic design management and effective stakeholder engagement.

Your work will play a critical role in de-risking design, enhancing constructability, and improving project performance across cost, programme, and quality metrics.

Your main responsibilities will be:

* Coordinate and integrate consultant and contractor design activities in alignment with project strategy, programme, and construction methodology
* Act as a central point of communication, providing a clear and unified voice to design consultants
* Ensure timely delivery of design information by tracking progress against KPIs and supporting consultant performance
* Facilitate constructability and sequencing reviews to ensure buildable and safe design solutions
* Support design compliance with project standards, regulatory frameworks (e.g. CDM, ONR, DNSR), and client governance
* Assist in preparing scopes of service for consultants and specialist packages, ensuring clarity and alignment
* Align consultant resources with project priorities and critical path milestones
* Coordinate pre-construction inputs such as decisions, site data, and contractor resources into the design
* Support the commercial team in contract administration for consultants and sub-consulted design packages
* Assist with payment certification, milestone achievement tracking, and KPI performance reviews
* Manage interface coordination across multiple designers and disciplines, avoiding scope gaps
* Identify and manage design change, assessing impact on programme, cost, and risk before implementation
* Collaborate with project teams to flag technical challenges and recommend specialist input when needed

Qualifications


Experience, Skills, and Qualifications Required:

* 5+ years of experience in design management, coordination, or engineering roles in the construction, infrastructure, or energy sector
* Understanding of project lifecycles, construction sequencing, and buildability principles
* Experience in working with design consultants and coordinating multi-disciplinary design inputs
* Familiarity with design and regulatory frameworks (e.g. CDM 2015, nuclear governance, ONR, DNSR)
* Knowledge of document management and Common Data Environment (CDE) processes
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience interfacing across contractor, consultant, and client teams
* Experience aligning design outputs to critical project milestones and tracking performance metrics
* Comfortable facilitating design reviews, workshops, and collaborative planning sessions
* Experience in contract administration for consultant design packages is beneficial
