Job Overview
The Environment Agency is stepping forward to tackle the climate emergency. As a member of the FCRM Improvements Portfolio team, you will support the Portfolio Management office and sub‑portfolio’s project and programme work, delivering over £150m of improvements in the next three years. You’ll play a critical role in informing changes, enabling outcomes that protect communities and businesses from flooding.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the Portfolio Management office with project and programme management tasks.
* Start up and inform new projects, assure live projects, and assist project managers.
* Build relationships with the Portfolio Management Office and embed portfolio‑management and data practices.
* Serve in an incident role (usually virtual) to respond to incidents or provide business continuity during an incident; full training and additional payment available.
* Identify and automate routine issues, applying continuous‑improvement and problem‑solving mindsets.
Experience & Skills Required
* Formal project / programme management experience is essential.
* Highly numerate with strong data gathering, manipulation and interpretation skills; experience working with large datasets and multiple users.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with Power BI / Tableau (or similar) is desirable.
* Experience in a project‑support role within a complex organisation using Agile and waterfall methodologies.
* Administrative and organisational skills for supporting portfolio governance: scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and minutes.
* Financial data management and project planning skills desirable.
* Ability to gain credibility, respect and cooperation throughout the business by demonstrating collaborative behaviours.
* Continuous‑improvement and problem‑solving mindset, with a willingness to automate routine tasks.
* Comfortable working with uncertainty and developing innovative solutions to problems.
Other Requirements
This role is not eligible for skilled visa sponsorship.

There is an opportunity for blended home and office working; team members may be based at an Environment Agency office (subject to facilities approval). Some travel and overnight stays will be required.
