Fire Safety DSEAR Specialist – Nuclear Energy
Lead critical safety compliance on the UK’s most significant nuclear new-build project.

You will be the go-to authority on dangerous substances and explosive atmospheres, shaping safety strategy and ensuring regulatory compliance on a project that will power six million homes. Key Responsibilities
* Act as the subject matter expert for DSEAR, providing specialist advice and guidance across the project and to contractors
* Conduct, review, and approve DSEAR assessments to identify and evaluate risks associated with dangerous substances
* Implement and oversee control measures, including fire prevention and explosion protection
* Manage legal registers and ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and non-regulatory provisions
* Develop, maintain, and review DSEAR policy and management arrangements in conjunction with multiple contractors
* Support investigations into DSEAR-related incidents and anticipate future needs based on the site’s risk profile
* Deliver monthly objectives and KPIs that support the project’s zero harm ambition
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HSE guidance, British Standards, and sector best practices
Qualifications & Requirements
* Degree in engineering, fire safety, process safety, chemistry, or a related discipline
* DSEAR-specific training or competency accreditation (e.g., CompEx Ex12 and Ex14, NEBOSH Fire/Process Safety)
* Experience in COMAH, process industries, manufacturing, laboratories, or fuel environments
* Experience auditing Ex-rated equipment and installations
* In-depth knowledge of DSEAR 2002, ATEX Directives, and relevant ACoPs
* Strong understanding of explosion science, hazardous properties, CLP, and ignition source control
* Experience conducting DSEAR assessments and hazardous area classification
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings
